A Complete Survival Guide for DPReview Users

ABSTRACT

DPReview is closing on Apr 10. Multiple online groups and forums have been proposed for DPR users to continue their photography discussion. Several issues arise from this: (1) As not all users agree on which forum to adopt, the DPR community has been divided by these succeeding forums. (2) Not all users have been fully informed of all candidate forums/groups available. (3) A user's preference on forum choice may change from time to time. (4) Some forums are still in development, whose quality is yet to be observed. (5) It is uncertain whether each candidate forum/group will keep running and run well in the long run. Therefore, we may come to the following conclusions: (1) We can make a distinction between "photo forums" (which may come and go, and whose value to a user may fluctuate from time to time) and "alumni associations" (online groups that keep all DPR users (alumni) together and share important news and offers of interest to all of them), so that no matter which "photo forum" a user chooses to use at a given time, all DPR users (alumni) are always connected by a single "alumni association" online group. (2) We can make a complete list of "alumni associations" and "photo forums" for all DPR users' reference, so that they may both stay together in the same alumni association and have the freedom to choose a photo forum to each of them's liking at a given time.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATONS

1. "DPReview Alumni" mailing list: A Google Groups group / mailing list to keep all DPR users (alumni) together, no matter which photo forum each of them chooses to go at a given time.
